SOLAR PANEL EFFICIENCY DEFINED
The majority of solar panels installed on Adelaide offer an efficiency in the 14 percent to 16 percent range. Solar panel efficiency is simply a measure of the panels ability to convert the sunshine radiating onto the panel, into electrical energy. So, for example, if a solar panel has a 16 percent efficiency, then for every 1000 watts of light hitting the solar panel we will 'generate' from that solar panel 160 watts of electrical energy, which, once converted into a.c. electricity via the solar inverter, can be used in the house. The challenge for solar panel manufacturers is to produce the highest possible efficiency panel. This results in higher electrical outputs per square metre of solar panel. So we can use fewer higher efficiency solar panels to produce the same output of lower efficiency panels. It also means that smaller roof spaces can accomodate larger output solar power ratings.PANASONIC CREATE HIGHEST EFFICIENCY SOLAR PANEL TO DATE
Panasonic announced in April that they had developed the world's most efficient solar panel with an efficiency of 25.6 percent. This is a remarkable acheivement and the ramifications for solar power systems into the future could be profound. As solar system efficiency continues to increase the possibility of solar produced electricity are getting closer to 'grid parity' - that is, solar energy could eventually be on price parity with fossil fueled electricity production.
